Virat Kohli stands among cricket’s all-time greats, renowned for his exceptional batting prowess. He’s a prominent figure in contemporary cricket, drawing attention whenever he steps onto the field. Kohli’s impact is so significant that even those with differing preferences keep a watchful eye on his performances.
As India and Netherlands gear up for their final World Cup league stage match in Bengaluru, Kohli has showcased stellar form, amassing two centuries and four half-centuries in the tournament. His 48th and 49th centuries in this World Cup have elevated him to the level of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, tying their records at 49 ODI centuries each.
The anticipation surrounding Kohli’s potential 50th century is palpable, especially given India’s stellar performance in the World Cup so far. As the team enters the semi-finals with an impeccable eight-match winning streak, Kohli’s consistent scoring adds to the excitement.
The upcoming match against Netherlands in Bengaluru, renowned as a batsman’s paradise, presents an ideal opportunity for Kohli to achieve this milestone. The conditions at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, a familiar ground for Kohli due to his association with RCB in the IPL, are expected to favor him.
Will Virat Kohli Be Rested For The Netherlands Game
Despite the eagerness of fans and administrators for Kohli to reach this milestone in his ‘second home,’ considerations are being made to rest senior players, including Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli in this last league game for India. While fans hope for a memorable moment, strategic decisions may prioritize player well-being in preparation for crucial stages ahead.
However India’s coach, Rahul Dravid, gave a strong hint about the team’s lineup for their last World Cup group-stage match against the Netherlands. India is already guaranteed the top spot in the points table, no matter the result of this match. There were thoughts that some key players might skip this game to stay fresh for the semi-final against New Zealand on November 15.
However, Dravid suggested that India plans to field their best team against the Netherlands because they’ve had a good six-day break since their last match against South Africa, and the players are in good shape and well-rested.
Dravid further said,”I think we just want to focus one game at a time. You still have to play good cricket, whether you’re playing in a league game, as we’ve done, or whether you’ve got to play a semi-final. I mean, you’ve just got certain skills you’ve got to execute, and execute really well and execute better than the opposition.
“You just got to focus on that, focus on what you can control, which is your skills, your ability. Prepare yourself both mentally, and physically as best as you can for the game. And then and then just play that game and try and do the best in that particular game.”
The Netherlands Captain Scott Edwards Hailed Kohli
Netherlands cricketers showered praise on the former Indian captain, Virat Kohli, ahead of their ODI World Cup match against India on Sunday at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Kohli has performed exceptionally well in this World Cup, scoring two centuries.
He recently achieved a significant milestone by equalling the record of cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, hitting his 49th century in the last match against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
