Team India for Australia T20 series has been announced, with Suryakumar Yadav appointed as the team’s captain. Additionally, Shreyas Iyer will join the team for the last two matches, taking on the role of vice-captain. The series, consisting of five T20s, is scheduled to take place between November 23 and December 3.

Three players from the ODI World Cup team have earned a spot in this T20 lineup. Notably, Captain Suryakumar Yadav has been a consistent performer, featuring in most matches. Ishan Kishan is also part of the squad, set to play in the first two matches.

Prasidh Krishna, initially joining the World Cup team due to Hardik Pandya’s injury, has been given an opportunity, despite not playing in the tournament. Shreyas Iyer, who showcased impressive form in the ODI World Cup with over 500 runs and two centuries, will serve as vice-captain in the series’ final two matches.

Hardik Pandya, the regular T20 captain, sustained an injury after bowling three balls in the fourth World Cup match, preventing his return. However, expectations are high for his comeback in the series against South Africa.

Under Rituraj’s leadership, India clinched the gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games. Surprisingly, in the selectors’ meeting held in Ahmedabad on Monday (20 November) to finalize the team selection, there was no discussion about appointing Rituraj as the captain. Despite his pivotal role in the recent success, the selectors seem to have overlooked him for the leadership position.

On a positive note, the team selection did include players who showcased their skills in the Asian Games. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Verma, Rinku Singh, and Jitesh Sharma, all of whom contributed to India’s success in Hangzhou, have been included in the current team. The selectors seem to recognize the talent and performance of these players, giving them an opportunity to continue their momentum at the international level.
