Sri Lanka Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe Sacked Amid Turmoil in Cricket Administration

Sri Lanka Sports Minister, Roshan Ranasinghe, was sacked on Monday after making serious allegations of corruption within the country’s cricket administration. Ranasinghe claimed that his life was in danger due to exposing corruption and pointed fingers at President Ranil Wickramasinghe and his staff, holding them responsible for any harm that may befall him.

Former Sri lanka Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe accuses President Ranil Wickramasinghe of attempted murder in connection to exposing corruption within the cricket board

The sports minister’s dismissal came after he made an attempt to reveal corruption within the cricket board, accusing President Wickramasinghe of attempted murder in connection to exposing corruption within the cricket board. Officials stated that Ranasinghe was removed from his post just before the weekly cabinet meeting on Monday due to his allegations and the subsequent controversy.

President Wickramasinghe has yet to provide an immediate response, except for confirming Ranasinghe’s dismissal from office. Ranasinghe had previously stirred controversy by ousting the elected cricket board earlier this month, alleging widespread corruption. However, he faces denial and legal challenges in court.

Ranasinghe, fearing for his life, claimed in parliament, “I fear that my efforts to clean up the cricket board could lead to my murder.” This intensified his clash with Wickramasinghe, who had been facing criticism over the management of Sri Lankan cricket.

The president’s office has not issued an immediate response, and cricket in Sri Lanka is in turmoil. Ranasinghe, having dismissed the cricket board earlier this month, had appointed former World Cup-winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga as the head of an interim committee to oversee cricket board operations. However, an appeal court overturned the decision a day later.

The Sri Lankan parliament had unanimously passed a motion earlier, dismissing the cricket board, an action equivalent to government intervention, leading to the suspension of Sri Lanka by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Roshan Ranasinghe accused Ranil Wickramasinghe of attempting to politically manipulate him and using false information related to a confiscated vehicle. Ranasinghe claimed that authorities seized an imported vehicle on false pretenses to entangle him in fabricated accusations.

While Ranasinghe has vowed to fight the corruption allegations and is challenging his removal in court, Sri Lanka Cricket finds itself in disarray. The ongoing power struggle and allegations of corruption cast a shadow over the future of cricket administration in the country, and further developments are expected in the coming weeks.
