Australia’s Double Blow, After Maxwell Injury Now Mitchell Marsh Has Been Ruled Out Of The ODI World Cup 2023

As per reports, Mitchell Marsh returned home from India on Thursday. Personal reason are behind his sudden return to Australia. There is no certain time given for his return to India for the remaining matches of the tournament.

This is a significant blow for Australia, especially since Glenn Maxwell met with the accident when he was on the back of a moving golf cart at Ahmedabad’s Kalhaar Blues and Greens golf club.

In the dimly lit surroundings, he lost his balance and tumbled off the cart, sustaining a concussion and minor facial bruising. Fortunately, no one else was harmed during this unexpected event.

Australia is very much in the semifinal race, with three matches left to play in the tournament. They need to win all their matches with a good run rate to secure a spot in the semifinals.

Their next match is against the defending world champion, England, at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. England’s team is not in good form in this tournament, sitting at the bottom of the points table with only two points in six matches, having won just one match and lost five.

On the other hand, Australia is currently in the third position on the points table with eight points in six matches, having won four and lost two. New Zealand and Pakistan are also fighting for the semifinal spots, making it crucial for Australia to win all their matches.

Both Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh are all-rounders and integral parts of Australia’s ODI team. They have provided the team with the proper balance due to their all-round abilities in recent years.

While Australia boasts a strong squad, both these batsmen have performed exceptionally well in this tournament. In their absence, the Australian team will consider their bench strength, with Alex Carey, Marcus Stoinis, and Cameron Green all in contention to replace Marsh and Maxwell for the match against England.

There is one silver lining for Australia, as their star opener, Travis Head, has returned to the team and played a brilliant knock on his return against New Zealand in Dharamshala.

However, Australia must remain cautious as their middle order, including star batsmen Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, hasn’t delivered as expected in the tournament. It will be interesting to see how the Australian team manages without their star all-rounders, especially as the tournament progresses towards the knockout stage.
