In the decisive match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Australia triumphed over India by 6 wickets, claiming their sixth title. In this title clash, the Kangaroo team’s captain, Pat Cummins, won the toss and elected to bowl first. Subsequently, the bowlers delivered an excellent performance, restricting the Indian innings to 240 runs.

While chasing the target, Australia lost 3 wickets in the initial 10 overs, but Travis Head’s prudent century played a pivotal role in achieving the set goal. Despite the disappointment evident in the Indian team, head coach Rahul Dravid, in his media interaction, elucidated the primary reason for the defeat.

We Couldn’t Get Enough Boundaries From 11th To 40th Over

The Indian team had a promising start in the match, reaching a score of 80 runs in the initial 10 overs. However, the Australian bowlers then effectively slowed down the run rate, exerting immense pressure on the Indian batsmen. Team India managed to hit only 2 fours in the match from the 11th over to the 40th over. Reflecting on the defeat, Coach Rahul Dravid stated that the pitch was sluggish initially, but he believes it performed considerably better later on.

He expressed that a score of 280 to 290 would have been much more competitive on this pitch, emphasizing that 240 runs were not secure. Rahul Dravid asserted that with an additional 30 to 40 runs, the team could have applied more pressure on the Australian side. He noted that the ball behaved more favorably for batting in the second innings, indicating the pitch’s improved conditions.

Rohit Sharma Is Great Leader But unlucky

Rahul Dravid also commented on Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, praising him as a great leader who invested time and energy in building the team. Dravid highlighted Sharma’s availability for discussions, ability to set the team’s rhythm in every match, and positive approach to cricket. He commended Sharma’s brilliant batting and expressed admiration for him as both a person and a leader, noting that Rohit led the team exceptionally well.
