IND vs SA- India defeated South Africa by 243 runs in a one-sided contest in the 2023 Cricket World Cup. With this victory, India secured their eighth consecutive win in the tournament and also clinched the top spot in the points table. This means that India will face the fourth-ranked team in the semi-finals.

In this match, India won the toss and chose to bat at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens stadium. They scored 326 runs, with Virat Kohli contributing 101 not out, marking his 49th century in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and equaling Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries. Shreyas Iyer also played a significant role by scoring 77 runs.

In response, South Africa’s team could only manage to score 83 runs in 27.1 overs, getting bowled out. Ravindra Jadeja was India’s top wicket-taker, securing 5 wickets. Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with 2 wickets each. India has achieved eight consecutive wins in a World Cup for the first time in 20 years since their victorious run in the 2003 World Cup, where they won eight matches in a row.

They consistently put pressure on South African bowlers, scoring 61 runs in the first 5 overs. At a score of 62, Rohit Sharma lost his wicket. Rohit scored 40 runs from 24 balls before being caught by South African captain Temba Bavuma, bowled by Kagiso Rabada.

After Rohit’s dismissal, Gill and Kohli continued to score runs and took the team to 90 within the powerplay. India scored 91 runs losing one wicket in the first 10 overs.

Following Rohit’s dismissal, Virat Kohli scored 19 runs from 15 balls quickly. However, after Gill was dismissed, Kohli steadied the innings. Kohli and Shreyas Iyer struggled initially, but after getting settled, they built a partnership. Both of them took the score past 200.

Shreyas Iyer scored 77 runs off 87 balls before getting out, breaking their 134-run partnership. After Shreyas’s dismissal, Virat Kohli continued to bat with K.L. Rahul and then Suryakumar Yadav, pushing India’s score past 300. In the process, Virat Kohli reached his 49th ODI century in the 49th over.

Kohli ended not out on 101 runs from 121 balls. He shared an unbeaten 24-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja to help India post a total of 326 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Jadeja remained not out with 29 runs from 15 balls.

The explosive partnership between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill laid a solid foundation for India’s innings, and Kohli’s century was a crucial factor in reaching a competitive total.Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, and Tabraiz Shamsi picked up one wicket each for South Africa.

South Africs’s Chase, The Batting Choked, Jadeja’s Fifer (IND vs SA)

South Africa’s start to their pursuit of the 327-run target was shaky. They struggled during the powerplay overs, losing three wickets while managing just 35 runs. Jasprit Bumrah created early pressure, conceding only 2 runs in his first over.

The advantage of this pressure was quickly capitalized by Mohammed Siraj in his first over, where he bowled out South African opener Quinton de Kock for 5 runs.

After Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja also made an impact in his first over by bowling out South African captain Temba Bavuma for 11 runs. Mohammed Shami got involved by taking a catch off Aiden Markram (9 runs) in his first over, which was an early blow for South Africa.

The South African team managed to score only 83 runs. The highest scorer for South Africa was Marco Jansen with 14 runs. Besides him, Aiden Markram scored 13 runs, while Temba Bavuma and David Miller contributed 11 runs each.

Apart from these, no South African batsman could surpass the double-digit mark. Ravindra Jadeja was the standout bowler for India, taking five wickets. Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav claimed two wickets each, and Mohammed Siraj took one wicket.

Virat Kohli Scored Unbeaten 101 Runs, scored His 49th Century (IND vs SA)

Virat Kohli scored his 49th century against South Africa in Kolkata in 37th match of the ODI World Cup 2023. He Scores 101 off 121 balls, This not only marked his 49th century in his ODI career, but also put him on par with the legendary batsman and cricket icon, Sachin Tendulkar.

Sachin also scored 49 centuries in ODIs during his illustrious career. Sachin achieved this feat in 452 ODI innings, whereas Virat reached his 49th century in his 277th ODI inning. What makes this even more special is that Virat achieved this milestone on his birthday, making it his second century in a World Cup event.

Sachin Tendulkar played 463 matches in his ODI career, amassing 18,426 runs in 452 innings with an average of 44.83. Tendulkar scored 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries.

Apart from Tendulkar and Kohli, the Indian captain with the most ODI centuries is Rohit Sharma. Rohit has scored 31 centuries in 251 innings out of 259 matches.

Following him is former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who has played 375 matches. Ponting scored 30 centuries in his 365 innings. In the fifth position is former Sri Lankan captain Sanath Jayasuriya, who played 445 matches, scoring 28 centuries in 433 innings.

In the ongoing World Cup, Virat Kohli has played innings of 85 runs, 0 runs (not out), 55 runs, 16 runs, 103 runs (not out), 95 runs, 0 runs, and 100* runs.
