ICC Hall OF Fame 2023-Virender Sehwag and Aravinda De Silva Shine in ICC Hall of Fame, Historic Inclusion for Indian Female Cricketer

Former Indian team opener Virender Sehwag has been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. In addition to Sehwag, Sri Lanka’s legendary batsman Aravinda de Silva has also received this prestigious recognition. This marks a historic moment as, for the first time, an Indian female cricketer has been included in the ICC Hall of Fame.

ICC Hall OF Fame- The former Indian explosive openeing batsman, Virender Sehwag, has been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. Alongside Sehwag, former Indian women’s cricket team player Diana Edulji and former Sri Lankan batsman Aravinda de Silva have also secured a spot on this prestigious list.

Diana Edulji has made history by becoming the first female cricketer from India to be included in the ICC Hall of Fame. While legends Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid were already included from India’s men’s side, Edulji is the first among women.

Virender Sehwag becomes the eighth Indian male cricketer, and Edulji is the ninth Indian overall to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Eligibility for this exclusive ICC club is reserved for former cricketers who have been retired for at least seven years. Sehwag, known as the ‘Nawab of Najafgarh,’ expressed his gratitude to the ICC for the honor.

Virender Sehwag’s Remarkable Record In Blue Shirt

Virender Sehwag, with remarkable achievements, scored 8,586 runs in 104 test matches at an average of 49.34 and took 40 wickets. In 251 ODIs, he added 8,273 runs at an average of 35.05, also securing 96 wickets. Sehwag, a former opening batsman for Team India, registered 394 runs in 19 T20 International matches, earning a reputation as one of the most dangerous batsmen in modern cricket.

“I feel extremely grateful for having spent a great part of my life doing what I loved most, ‘hitting the cricket ball’,” said Sehwag.

Arvinda De Silva, The Sri lankan Legend Has Memorable 1996 world Cup

Aravinda de Silva, a key figure in Sri Lanka’s cricket history, participated in 93 Test matches and 308 ODIs. Following the 2003 ODI World Cup, he retired from international cricket, accumulating a total of 15,645 runs and taking 135 wickets. Notably, he played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s triumph in the 1996 World Cup.

In the semi-finals, he contributed with a half-century against India, and in the final, he played an unbeaten century against Australia. Aravinda de Silva’s significant contributions include his instrumental performances during Sri Lanka’s victorious campaign in the World Cup.

“My family, my parents, my sister, my wife and children are my anchor, and deserve the deepest thanks for their unwavering support and sacrifice, which have propelled me towards success. My friends, steadfast companions throughout my highs and lows, have been my pillars of strength,” de Silva said.

Diana Edulji, first Women Cricketer From India To Get The Honour

Diana Edulji, in her cricket career, played 20 test matches, scoring 404 runs and taking 63 wickets. She contributed 211 runs and 46 wickets in 34 ODIs, boasting an average of 16.84. Besides her playing career, she served as the captain of the Indian team and later took up a role in Indian administration after retirement.
