After losing five wickets for 85 runs, England was struggling. Yet, Ben Stokes remained at the crease. England had hopes of a calculated batting performance from their remaining batsmen, but it didn’t materialize as England’s batsmen played poorly and kept losing wickets.
Moeen Ali scored 15, Chris Woakes got a duck, and Adil Rashid contributed just two runs. In the midst of this, Ben Stokes also departed after scoring 43 runs.
Rashid carelessly gave away his wicket. Mark Wood, with five runs, was out, and Willey remained unbeaten at 14 runs. Lahiru Kumara took three wickets for Sri Lanka, while Angelo Mathews and Kasun Rajitha claimed two wickets each. Tikkshna secured one wicket.

Sri Lankan Chase And Victory By 8 Wickets
While chasing the target of 157 runs, Sri Lanka didn’t have a great start. Kusal Perera was dismissed after scoring just four runs. Following this, Kusal Mendis also returned to the pavilion with 11 runs on the board.
Sri Lanka could have found themselves in a tough spot after losing two wickets for 23 runs. However, Pathum Nissanka and Sadira Samarawickrama formed a century partnership to lead their team to victory. Nissanka scored 77 runs, and Samarawickrama contributed 65 runs, both remaining unbeaten. For England, both wickets were taken by David Willey.
It’s truly sad how England’s tournament keeps falling apart. Their batting, which is their primary force, disappoints consistently in each match, as none of their batsmen manages to convert their starts into bigger scores.
While the pitch conditions today were challenging, the players of such high caliber that england have should adjust accordingly and fine-tune their approach.
Unfortunately, we didn’t witness much of that adaptation today. On the contrary, Sri Lanka has made a remarkable resurgence, securing two consecutive victories after suffering three straight losses. They are now aiming to build on this momentum and continue their winning streak.
Jos Buttler, England Captain, After The Loss
It’s incredibly tough. As a captain you feel that a lot – disappointed with myself and the boys that we’ve not shown our best. We’re playing a long way short of our best.
There’s a lot of really experienced cricketers in the room. You don’t become a bad team overnight. That’s the frustration. We’ve been so far short of our best, and there’s no particular reason.
Can’t put my finger on it. Selection is something you want to be consistent with. Selection hasn’t been our problem. We’ve been short of our standards. Lots of the dismissals – Root’s run out – you don’t see that kind of mistakes from us.
Haven’t been building partnerships. Not doing the basic things well with both bat and ball. The biggest thing is personal pride. The standards we set for ourselves. Rest of the matches we want to get back to playing good cricket. Whatever will be will be.
Kusal Mendis, Sri Lankan Captain On This Huge Victory
NRR going up is good for the team. We bowled very well today. Everyone did really well today. Another 4 games left. If we win 3 games back to back, we’ll be in the semis.
Players did well last match also. Hope we can do well next couple of matches. Kumara did well today. He’s the main fast bowler in Sri Lanka. Bowled 140-145 speeds.
Very happy that he came back strong today. Mathews bowled really well. He offers so many things. Can bat also. Can play the pressure situation also. I’m very lucky to be playing with him. Fielding was excellent today. Want to keep doing the same in the next 4 matches.
