Bangladesh started their World Cup campaign with a win by defeating Afghanistan by six wickets. With this win he has two points in one match. They are at third place in the points table after New Zealand and Pakistan. All three teams have two points each. New Zealand is at the top on the basis of better internet rate.

Nazmul Hossain Shanto scored unbeaten 59 runs for Bangladesh. He hit three fours and one six in his 83-ball innings. Mehdi Hasan Miraj played an inning of 57 runs in 73 balls. Hit five fours during this period. Shakib Al Hasan was out after scoring 14 runs and Liton Das was out after scoring 13 runs. Tanjeed Hasan scored five runs. Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten after scoring two runs. For Afghanistan, Fazalhaq Farooqui, Azmatullah Omarzai and Naveen Ul Haq took one wicket each.

Deadly bowling of Shakib and Mehdi
Earlier, Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored the highest score of 47 runs for Afghanistan. Ibrahim Zadran and Azmatullah Omrai played an inning of 22 runs each. Rahmat Shah and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi contributed 18 runs each. Rashid Khan could score only nine, Mohammad Nabi six and Najibullah Zadran could score only five runs. Mujeeb ur Rahman scored one run. Naveen Ul Haq could not open account. Fazalhaq Farooqui remained unbeaten without opening the account. Shakib Al Hasan and Mehdi Hasan Miraj took three wickets each for Bangladesh. Shoriful Islam got two successes. Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed took one wicket each.
